1. The nature of this service

Awashima Post is an anonymous messaging web application that functions as an emotional sanctuary, inspired by the philosophical ethos of the Missing Post Office installation on Awashima Island. It is designed as a meditative space for thoughts, words, and letters you have nowhere else to send — whether addressed to others or simply released into the world. Awashima Post is an artistic and reflective platform, not a formal postal service, mental healthcare service provider, or licensed professional.

2. Anonymity and no-account use

We operate on a strict zero-account architecture, meaning we do not require, collect, or store user accounts, email addresses, passwords, or personal identifiers. When you submit a letter, you receive a private recovery key: a non-sequential, randomly generated identifier that cannot be guessed or enumerated. Because we store no data tied to your identity, you are solely responsible for saving this key if you want to revisit your post or check its resonance later.

3. Content you post

You retain full responsibility for the words, reflections, and hashtags you leave on the platform. Because posts are anonymous, you must ensure your contributions respect community safety guidelines, legal standards, and the emotional sanctuary of fellow visitors. We reserve the right to moderate, flag, or remove content that violates our community safety guidelines or applicable laws.

Once submitted, letters enter our permanent archive and cannot be retracted by the author. They remain unless flagged and verified as a violation of our community standards. Please reflect carefully before sharing your words with the world.

4. Moderation and removal

To maintain platform safety and integrity, designated administrators maintain a secure moderation queue. Moderators reserve the absolute right to review, approve, hold, or permanently delete any letter to protect platform safety and prevent abuse.

5. Privacy

Your privacy and digital anonymity are foundational to our mission. We do not store raw IP addresses, browser user-agents, network connection logs, or tracking cookies in our database. Because we operate without user accounts or personal profiles, we have no mechanism — and no desire — to track your activity or tie your thoughts back to your real-world identity. Furthermore, the content of letters is never indexed by search engines and will never appear in public search results.

6. Crisis content and duty of care

While Awashima Post serves as an emotional sanctuary for grief, loss, and loneliness, it is not a crisis intervention or mental health treatment service. We employ automated content screening for acute self-harm language. When triggered, the system presents supportive, non-intrusive resources (such as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US and international directory links) and routes the payload to our secure admin review queue. If you are in immediate danger or emotional crisis, please contact your local emergency services or helpline immediately.
